Calculator aligned with PAS2050 specification; endorsed by The CarbonNeutral Company®
The BPIF in association with The CarbonNeutral Company®, the world-leading carbon offset and carbon management company, has launched the BPIF Carbon Calculator, the first calculator focused exclusively on the print and packaging industry. The BPIF Carbon Calculator is aligned with the principles of the BSI British Standard PAS2050. It is exclusive to BPIF Members and free to Platinum Members.
BPIF members will now be able to measure the carbon emissions produced by their site and also from individual print contracts through the Calculator. Members will receive advice on how to reduce their emissions including to the point of net zero. For offset based programmes and CarbonNeutral® certification, members will be referred to The CarbonNeutral Company®, .
“Clients are demanding carbon responsibility from their suppliers – and it is being felt by our members. We know that carbon footprinting and reduction programmes can help businesses realise big cost savings and win business. The new BPIF calculator will help print and packaging companies to ‘carbon cost’ their jobs, and provide clients with a clear method to compare products and services across the industry” explains Michael Johnson, Chief Executive, BPIF.
The Calculator has taken a year to develop, and BPIF has consulted widely with The CarbonNeutral Company®, its members, associates, and trade bodies nationally and internationally.
Bill Sneyd, Director of Advisory Services, The CarbonNeutral Company®, says “We were the first company to create on-line calculators to enable companies measure their emissions and to take action. We are pleased to be working with the leading trade federation to endorse and launch the first and most comprehensive calculator focused exclusively on the print industry. Our experience has shown that printers who implement a carbon management policy realise a broad range of benefits – from maximising operational efficiencies, differentiating their service, and building reputation. Printers will be able to measure in detail the impact of specific print jobs, enabling them to respond to requests for information about carbon emissions from their customers in a proactive manner. The use of the BPIF Carbon Calculator will enable the print industry to get ‘on the front foot’ on this critical environmental issue.” To know more Click
